Job Information
Employer Name:
Perotsystems
Present Job Title:
Project Manager
Brief description of my job responsibilities, e.g. a typical week in my job:
Any given week I might travel to 3 different client sites. I am responsible for the all day to day management of projects.
I have focused for the past 5yrs on supply chain work. I make sure the project is on-time, on budget and the client is
happy. I am responsible for the development of younger consultants as well.
Suggestions I would give to undergraduate students with regard to courses,
internships, and other means of preparation for my career field:
Actually take the time to understand the material, do not just memorize it. Take courses that challenge you, but also take
courses that you want to take as well. Enjoy the process, because it will never get better than college. Do at least 1
internship. In this market you will be the first cut from the list if you do not have some actual experience.
My career path in getting to this position:
Started with Arthur Andersen Business Consulting out of school as a consultant in their Supply Chain group. I progressed up
to Senior Consultant then made the switch over to Perot Systems
Other advice for students interested in gaining entry into and pursuing a career
in this field:
Do not glamourize the consulting industry. It is much more difficult than any other choice you can make. There is nothing
fun about sitting in an airport at 7pm on Friday 2000miles away from home not knowing when you are going to get home.
Understand that with the benefits come the pains. It is very rewarding professionally, but it is also a lifestyle choice
you will need to make. It is not for everyone.
