Present Job Title:
Marketing Manager
Brief description of my job responsibilities, e.g. a typical week in my job:
Corporate communications including graphic design, public
speaking, creation of brochures, logos, press materials and
many others.
Suggestions I would give to undergraduate students with regard to courses,
internships, and other means of preparation for my career field:
Take all internships possible. They _do_ matter when it
comes to having a well-rounded experience when you graduate.
For me personally, a part-time job in college as the dining
services graphic designer turned into a career position in
the major I chose.
My career path in getting to this position:
I saw a position in the Daily Beacon for a student graphic
designer with UT Dining Services. I took that job and made
signs and flyers about Dining Services events. After
graduation I was working part-time with the Knoxville
Airport in Public Relations and received a call from the new
company that had taken over the administration of the Dining
Services. I took a position with them and have worked with
them for more than three years.
Other advice for students interested in gaining entry into and pursuing a career
in this field:
Get involved with everything you can, but schedule your
time so that you can really contribute. There is always room
for a dedicated contributor in any organization.
