Present Job Title:
M4

Brief description of my job responsibilities, e.g. a typical week in my job:
Seeing patients, diagnosing and treating disease, teaching prevention of disease

Suggestions I would give to undergraduate students with regard to courses, internships, and other means of preparation for my career field:
Work or volunteer in a hospital. Study hard in school. Spend time learning about the different types of specialties in medicine. Learn more Spanish. Do an international elective and study medicine in a foreign country or underserved part of the US

My career path in getting to this position:
Studied hard in high school and college. Volunteered at St Mary's Hospital and worked a summer internship at UT Hospital. Talk with doctors about their jobs. Take MCAT and apply to schools early.

Other advice for students interested in gaining entry into and pursuing a career in this field:
I felt Exercise Science was a great Pre-Med major because you learn a lot about the body and medicine. I enjoyed the course about disabilities and working with the Fort Sanders school. I wish I would have taken more Spanish classes in college because the Hispanic population continues to grow and needs professionals who are bilingual. Exercise Science also offers the opportunity to pursue other fields like ATC, PT, OT, education, etc which are great jobs if one is not admitted to medical school. Medical school has been an extremely challenging and exciting opportunity, and I look forward to my career as a physician
