Present Job Title:
Engineer 1
Brief description of my job responsibilities, e.g. a typical week in my job:
I work as a mechanical engineer at a nuclear plant mainly working on reliability engineering projects and tasks. I'm still new so I haven't done as much as I know I will be doing soon. Any engineering students can e-mail me with questions!! :)
Suggestions I would give to undergraduate students with regard to courses,
internships, and other means of preparation for my career field:
If you can, try to get an internship through the maintenance and reliability center located in East Stadium Hall. You will train between internships and special classes to be some of the most select graduates in your field, plus a bigger salary :)
My career path in getting to this position:
I had three internships during the summer, was involved in school, had good enough (not like 4.0 or close or anything), and worked hard.
Other advice for students interested in gaining entry into and pursuing a career
in this field:
Go to class. The higher you get up in your classes, you can't afford to miss
any lectures. Also, form student groups/homework groups with some people in your classes.
Most people will find it impossible to do every project/homework problem on their own. (
Don't cheat or anything, just talk through problems). Study calculus/advanced science in high school
if you can and be willing to work with people and being stressed out. Also, be willing to talk to your
professors when something doesn't make sense.
