Job Information
Employer Name:
Management Programs Corporation
Present Job Title:
CEO
Brief description of my job responsibilities, e.g. a typical week in my job:
I founded Onsite Engineering and Management, Inc in 1985 and sold it in 1996. I now consult part
time and manage investments.
Suggestions I would give to undergraduate students with regard to courses,
internships, and other means of preparation for my career field:
Learn to make good presentations. You will always be selling something (an item or an idea). Learn
to think logically using facts. The engineering program is great at teaching this through the
scientific method, etc. Take some business courses. It is how the world really works. The profit
motive drives all progress.
My career path in getting to this position:
I was a Field Engineer for GE overseeing installtion of GE turbines, nuclear reactors and
generators from 1969 until 1974. I worked my way through mid level management at GE until 1984 when
went out on my own and founded Onsite Engineering & Management, Inc. I grew it into a 200 employee
firm with $25M in revenues and sold it in 1996.
Other advice for students interested in gaining entry into and pursuing a career
in this field:
Plan to start your own company eventually. It is the only way to control your own destiny. It helps
to work for someone else for a few years first in your chosen field.
