Lobbying state and federal elected officals, organize grassroots activities and public information campaign.
Suggestions I would give to undergraduate students with regard to courses,
internships, and other means of preparation for my career field:
Find internships, take courses that provide practical experience: (business writing
and speaking, computer classes that allow you to become familier with excel, access,
power point etc.)
My career path in getting to this position:
I worked for Congressional Bob Clement (5th-TN), Managed political races, worked in public
relations and then went into lobbying.
Other advice for students interested in gaining entry into and pursuing a career
in this field:
Go to graduate school, if you have the chance. Find interships and practical experience. They mean
everything when you are getting started. Expect to start with a very low salery compared to most
other persons who recieve jobs after graduation. Do not worry about the pay; it will increase
rapidly after you get a couple of years of experience.
