Brief description of my job responsibilities, e.g. a typical week in my job:
Create and maintain quotes for distributors and end users. Ensure that proper
profit margins are met and that the business unit is profitable. Create new
marketing strategies for Thomas & Betts sales reps out in the field. Report
on sales initiatives and give feeback to upper management. Previously worked in
outside sale in the Communications divisions. Top producer each quarter.
Assigned multi-million dollar corporate base while maintaing current customer
base. Ensured distribution channels/customers had the proper tools necessary to
achieve their sales goals. Recognized my management as "sales rep of the
quarter".
Suggestions I would give to undergraduate students with regard to courses,
internships, and other means of preparation for my career field:
Learn and take in as much as you possibly can. If an internship is available to
take in you major, explore that challenge. Become very active no campus and get
to know your professors. Research the company you are interviewing for a job
with and be open-minded to new challenges that are presented to you.
My career path in getting to this position:
#1 obtaining my college degree from UT.
#2 Working very hard and being
persistant in achieving my career goals.
#3 Never turning down new
opportunities offered to me from my current employer.
Other advice for students interested in gaining entry into and pursuing a career
in this field:
Don't give up. You will find what you want and be able to land that dream
job.
