Unpaid or Low-paying Stipend Internships and Fellowships

University of Tennessee Resources

  • Center for Career Development & Academic Exploration’s Impact Internship Grant
  • Office of National Scholarships and Fellowships  Provides information and mentoring for students who wish to apply for nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships.
  • Congressional Internship Program – Competitive nomination process providing interns a scholarship to work with Tennessee legislatures in Washington, D.C. in a summer, fall or spring semester.

Scholarships, Grants, and Financial Assistance External to the University of Tennessee

  • J.W. Saxe Memorial Fund – A prize of $2,000 will be awarded to one or more college or university students involved in public service. The award is meant to enable the student to gain practical experience in public service by taking a no-pay or low-pay job or internship during a summer or other term.
  • Association for Women in Sports Media – Since 1990, AWSM has placed more than 90 female college students interested in sports media careers in paid internships. All interns receive a $1,000 scholarship from AWSM in addition to whatever pay the internship provides.
  • Green Scholarships – Numerous providers are awarding green scholarships to environmentally-conscious students to pursue studies or projects in sustainable areas.
  • PSJD – Public Service Legal Careers – Database of funding opportunities for students pursuing legal careers in public service fields.
