Center for Career Development & Academic Exploration Overview
Students will learn the basics of the CCDAE in this general session. Content includes an introduction to: the career-decision making model, career coaches, key center events, Handshake, and general resources for next steps.
Major or Career Exploration (appropriate for FYS 101)
This session appropriate for FYS 101 introduces students to career competencies and ways to develop them at UT; provides time to reflect on personal interests, values, and strengths; and highlights tools to research majors and career paths including Handshake. Content and resources can be customized by industry.
Resume Writing
Students will receive tips on crafting a successful resume and assistance with editing existing information. Cover letters can also be incorporated at your request.
Interviewing
CCDAE staff will present information on how to prepare for an interview, how to answer specific types of questions, and interviewing etiquette and follow up. Different types of interviews will be covered (e.g. virtual, on-site, case).
Internships 101/Gaining Experience
Students will learn the value of internships and experiential learning how to secure an internship or other relevant experience that future employers or graduate schools value. Content and resources can be customized by industry.
Job Search Strategies
Students will learn how to effectively search for jobs using Handshake, LinkedIn, networking, and other tactics. Content and resources can be customized by industry.
Graduate School Planning
CCDAE staff will present information on successfully transitioning from college to graduate school, including the application process, personal statements, interviewing, and more. Content and resources can be customized by discipline.
