Whether you are working a part-time job or trying to find an internship at a job fair, a professional outfit in your closet is a must.  At UT, we have resources to help you dress sharp and feel confident in all of your professional environments.

Smokey’s Closet provides free, gently used professional clothing and accessories to students at UT. Students check-in and can receive one free outfit.

Fall Clothing Drive: Seasons are changing and Smokey’s Closet is holding a clothing drive from Monday, October 15th – Friday, November 2nd. Drop off new or gently used, contemporary clothing during the regularly scheduled hours OR organize a clothing drive in your office/department OR drop off clothing during one of the three designated Homecoming events:

  • Homecoming Carnival: October 29th 11:00am-2:00 pm (Humanities Plaza)
  • Torchbearer Tuesday: October 30th 11:00 am-1:00pm (Torchbearer Statue)
  • Cumberland Clean-Up: November 1st 2:00 pm-4:00pm (Baker Center)

FAQ

When is Smokey’s Closet? Smokey’s Closet will be open on Tuesday and Fridays from 12pm-4pm in Dunford Hall 2326 (excluding holiday breaks).

What if I can’t make it at that time? Students can email smokeyscloset@utk.edu for appointments as needed.

How much do the outfits cost? Nothing! The clothing is donated by the Knoxville and Campus community so students can have professional clothing.

Where is Smokey’s Closet? Dunford Hall, room 2326 after Sept 12th.

What if I’m a grad student? You’re still a student! Any student is welcome at Smokey’s Closet.

What if I don’t want other students to know I shop there? Smokey’s Closet is staffed by professionals and the individual appointments are arranged with an SGA Senator. We definitely want you to feel comfortable

Where can I donate clothing? We accept donations throughout the year! The drop-off location is Smokey’s Closet in Dunford Hall 2326 on Tuesday and Friday from 12-4 PM. For an additional time, please email smokeyscloset@utk.edu.

Where can I donate money? Donate through our VolStarter!

Who runs Smokey’s Closet? Smokey’s Closet is a partnership between Student Government Association and the Center for Career Development. An SGA committee recruits volunteers to assist throughout the year. We also have also partnered with the Student Disability Services office, Experience Learning, the National Retail Student Federal Association, Center for Leadership and Service, the Leadership Studies Minor, and the Knoxville Alumni Chapter.

J.C. Penney

UT is proud to have a partnership with J.C. Penney to provide students professional clothing at deep discounts!  On designated “Suit Up” Sundays throughout the school year, J.C. Penney will open its store exclusively to UT students, faculty, staff, and alumni and will give a 40% coupon to be used on select professional brands!

Which entrance do I use? Enter on the upper level where the balloons are. This is also the men’s department.

Is the discount on everything? The discount applies to professional brands designated by J.C. Penney. The discount does apply to existing discounts!
