Whether you are working a part-time job or trying to find an internship at a job fair, a professional outfit in your closet is a must. At UT, we have resources to help you dress sharp and feel confident in all of your professional environments.

Smokey’s Closet in it’s NEW location on the 3rd floor (376C) of the Student Union (across from the Dean of Students Office) 

Hours for the summer semester will be by appointment only! Please send an email to smokeyscloset@utk.edu to request a date/time to shop. 

Smokey’s Closet provides free, gently used professional clothing and accessories to students at UT. Students check-in and can receive one free outfit.

Smokey’s Closet wishes to thank the UTK Parents & Families Association for a 2020-2021 grant which enabled us to purchase materials needed for the move to our new location. 

 

FAQ

When is Smokey’s Closet open? Smokey’s Closet is open by appointment only for the summer. If you need to shop for clothes send an email to smokeyscloset@utk.edu with your availability and a staff member will accommodate you.

How much do the outfits cost? Nothing! The clothing is donated by the Knoxville and campus community so students can have professional clothing.

Where is Smokey’s Closet? 376C in the Student Union. The location is on the 3rd floor of the Student Union across from the Dean of Students office.

What if I’m a grad student? You’re still a student! Any student is welcome at Smokey’s Closet.

What if I don’t want other students to know I shop there? Smokey’s Closet is for ALL students. We want every student to feel welcome and hope that you find something to meet your clothing need.

Where can I donate clothing? We are happy to take donations of professional, contemporary clothing. Complete the Donation Form to arrange a drop-off date and time. This way we can be sure to have a staff member available to assist you and provide directions.

Where can I donate money? Donate through our Smokey’s Closet Fund!

Who runs Smokey’s Closet? Smokey’s Closet is a partnership between Student Government Association, the Center for Career Development & Academic Exploration and the UT National Retail Student Federation Association. An SGA committee recruits volunteers to assist throughout the year.

Can I volunteer? Absolutely! Email smokeyscloset@utk.edu for more information.

J.C. Penney Suit Up Event

UT is proud to have a partnership with J.C. Penney to provide students professional clothing at deep discounts! On a designated “Suit Up” time, J.C. Penney will open its store exclusively to UT students, faculty, staff, and alumni and will give a 30% coupon to be used on select professional brands! The fall event is scheduled to be held in person!

When is the Suit Up event? The Fall Suit Up event is Sunday, September 12, 2021 from 6:00-9:00pm.

Which J.C. Penney location? The Fall Suit Up event will be held at West Town Mall, 7600 Kingston Pike, Knoxville. Enter at the upper level of the parking lot where you see the Big Orange balloons.

What time is the event? 6:00-9:00pm

How do I get there? For individuals with no access to transportation email smokeyscloset@utk.edu to see if carpool arrangements can be made.

Is the discount on everything? The discount applies to professional brands designated by J.C. Penney. The discount does apply to existing discounts!
