Transition advising is available for students who are decided on a major but are not eligible to declare. Transition advisors can provide short-term academic advising for these students. Students assigned to a transition advisor include 1) current students who choose University Exploratory as a major because they are not eligible for their major of choice, 2) incoming transfer students admitted to UT as University Exploratory because they were denied admission into their 1st and 2nd choice of major, and 3) students who are returning to UT after an absence and are readmitted as University Exploratory because they are not eligible for their major of choice.
Transition Advising Appointments
If you have been referred to transition advising, you must first complete our Academic & Career Exploration Intake Form. We will review your request and determine if you are eligible for transition advising, if you should schedule an academic and career exploration coaching appointment, or if you should meet with an advisor in a different office. Note: If you already have an assigned transition advisor, do not complete this form; please contact your advisor directly to request an appointment.
Undecided or Redeciding on a Major
Students who need assistance with choosing a major should schedule an academic & career exploration appointment, not a transition advising appointment. These appointments are scheduled through Handshake and more information on how to schedule these appointments can be found here.
Changing Your Major
Students who are eligible for their major of choice should schedule an academic advising appointment in the appropriate college advising center. Some departments and colleges post change of major forms on their websites so we recommend checking there first. Additional information about UT’s advising centers can be found here. Note: we cannot change students’ majors; this must be done in the appropriate college advising center.
Refer to the flow chart above for guidance on when it is appropriate to meet with a transition advisor. Questions? Email us at email@example.com.
Select members of the Academic & Career Exploration (ACE) team provide transition advising services for undergraduates. You can learn more about the advisors by clicking on their profile photos below.
